Free Week Music Festival this weekend

Fill the first weekend of 2025 with live music. Red River Cultural District’s annual music festival is this Jan. 3  to Jan. 4, showcasing the local performers that live up to Austin’s “live music capital of the world” namesake.

The Free Week festival’s 87 performers play rock, electronic, cumbia, rap, jazz and more along Red River Street in the city’s historic venues. Music lovers can discover their new favorite bands that live right down the street all for free.

You can experience recommended acts from Austin Chronicle music and culture editor, Carys Anderson and music photographer Renee Dominguez on the festival’s Instagram page or curate your own experience through their schedule.

“Free Week is a celebration of everything that makes Austin the Live Music Capital of the World — our incredible local artists, historic venues, and a Cultural District that has been a home base for generations of musicians,” Nicole Klepadlo, interim executive director of the Red River Cultural District, said in a statement.

The free music festival is put together by non-profit organization Red River Cultural district who aim to preserve the district’s culture. You can donate $10 to enter a raffle for free concert tickets to Mohawk’s, Stubb’s and Chess Club to support the organization’s efforts.
